Skanda Sashti:
The sashti thithi
during Solar month Aippasi (As per lunar month it is karthika) is celebrated as
Skanda Sashti which is the most significant festival dedicated to Lord Murugan.
Devotees observe
six days fast from the first day also called Pirathamai of Kartika month and
ends on the sixth day which is known as Soorasamharam day.
Soorasamharam is
the most significant day of the six days celebration. It is on this day Lord
Murugan defeated Demon Surapadman and hence Soorasamharam is observed every
year to celebrate the victory of good over evil.
The day after
Soorasamharam is celebrated as Thiru Kalyanam.
This year, 6 Day Skanda
Sashti Viratham begins on November 4, 2021 (Thursday) and - Soorasamharam is on November
9, 2021.

ஆமோத சீதள குங்கும பாடீர பூஷண நகமேவு
கொங்கையில் ... வாசம் மிக்கதும், குளிர்ந்த செஞ்சாந்து, சந்தனம்,
நகைகள் அணிந்ததுமான மலை போன்ற மார்பகங்களிலும்,
நீராவி மேல்வளர் செங்கழு நீர்மாலை சூடிய கொண்டையில் ...
நீர்த் தடாகத்தின் மேல் வளரும் செங்கழுநீர் மலர்மாலையைச் சூடிய
கூந்தலிலும்,
ஆதார சோபையில் மருளாதே ... உடலின் அழகிலும்

பாதங்களில் சிலம்பை அணிந்தவள், திருக்கரத்தில் சூலத்தைத்
தரித்தவள்,
பங்கமி லாநீலி மோடிபயங்கரி ... குற்றமில்லாத கருநீல
நிறத்தவள், காட்டைக் காக்கும் வன துர்க்கை, பயத்தைத் தருபவள்

மாகாளி யோகினி ... மகா காளி, யோகத்தின் தலைவியாகிய

kombanaiyAr kAdhu mOdhiru kaNgaLil: Looking at both the eyes of the beautiful creeper-like women, which extend up to, and hit, their ears;
AmOdha seethaLa kungkuma pAdeera bUshaNa nagamEvu kongaiyil: at their fragrant mountain-like bosom wearing cool vermilion, sandalwood paste and jewels;
neerAvi mEl vaLar sengazhu neer mAlai sUdiya kondaiyil: at their braided hair, adorned with garlands of red lilies that blossom on the waterfront of the ponds;
AdhAra sObaiyil maruLAdhE: and at the lovely shapes of their bodies, - I do not want to be befuddled.

bayankari mA kALi yOgini: She is awe-inspiring (and removes the causes of terror); She is the Great KALi; She is the ultimate manifestation of yOgA;
