Kandhar Anubhuti is the highest form of worship towards the Supreme Lord Subrahmanya, the finest literature and crowning glory of Bhakti. It is a spontaneous outpouring of Sri Arunagiri Nathar when he was in Divine Ecstacy of being united with Lord Sri Skanda and considered as maha manatharam.. It is popular to say that Sri Arunagirinathar sang Anubhuti when he was in Anubhuti

This is the last episode of skanda sashti special series. IT IS CUSTOMARY TO SING ANUBHUTHI IN THIRUPPUGAZH ISAIVAZIPADU AT  THE END FOLLOWED BY PUJAI AND PRARTHANAI.

On this auspicious occasion of Skanda Sashti, let’s learn few verses from Kandar Anubuthi.

Ragam- Hamsadhwani ஹம்சத்வனி

வானோ? புனல் பார் கனல் மாருதமோ?

ஞானோ தயமோ? நவில் நான் மறையோ?

யானோ? மனமோ? எனை ஆண்ட இடம்

தானோ? பொருளாவது சண்முகனே.

 

ஆறுமுகக் கடவுளே! 'பரம்பொருள்' என்பது யாது? ஆகாயமோ? நீரோ? பூமியோ? நெருப்போ? காற்றோ? ஞானத்தினால் அறியக்கூடிய பொருளோ? ஓதப்படுகின்ற நான்கு வேதங்களோ? 'நான்' என்று சொல்லப்படுகின்ற சீவனோ? மனமோ? ['நீயேநான்-நானேநீ' என்று கூறி] அடியேனை ஆட்கொண்ட தேவரீரோ?

O, God Sanmukaa! What is the Supreme Being like? Is it the sky, the water, the earth, the fire, or the air? Is it perceivable by one's wisdom? Is it the four Vedas, which are being recited? Is it the soul that is referred to as 'I' ? Is it the mind? Is it Your Supreme Self, who graciously accepted me as Your devotee [by saying, 'Yourself is myself', and 'myself is Yourself']?

(வினை மிகுந்த வாழ்வை நீக்கு முருகா)

 

மெய்யே என வெவ்வினை வாழ்வை உகந்து

ஐயோ, அடியேன் அலையத் தகுமோ?

கையோ, அயிலோ, கழலோ முழுதும்

செய்யோய், மயில் ஏறிய சேவகனே.

 

உண்மை வாழ்வென்று எண்ணி கொடிய வினைக்கு ஈடான இந்த வாழ்வில் களித்து மகிழ்ந்து, ஐயோ, அடியேன் அலைதல் முறையோ? தேவரீரின் திருக்கரங்கள் மட்டுமன்றி, கையில் ஏந்தும் வேலாயுதம், வீரக்கழல்கள் அணியப்பெற்ற திருவடிகள் ஆகியவை எல்லாம் செந்நிறமாய் அமைந்து, மயில் வாகனத்தின் மீது ஏறிய மாவீரரே

Is it right that I should wander, by regarding this life of cruel deeds as the real life, and being delighted in it? O, Lord, not only Your Sacred Hands, but also the weapon of lance, held by Your hand, and the Sacred Feet, adorned with heroic anklets, are all of red complexion, and You are the Great warrior riding on Your vehicle of peacock!

With this verse, we can pray to Lord Murugan, the red-hued One to remove the delusion of this world, and seek His Grace to Unite with Him

கங்கை நதி ஈன்ற வரத மூர்த்தியே! கந்தப்பெருமானே! திருமுருகப்பெருமானே! கருணைக்கு இருப்பிடமானவரே! மனத்துக்கு வருத்தம் தரும் இல்லற வாழ்க்கையுடன் செல்வம் என்னும் விந்தியமலைக்காடு போன்ற சிக்கல் நிறைந்த சூழலை அடியேன் என்று விட்டு விலகுவேன்?

சாடும் தனிவேல் முருகன் சரணம்

சூடும் படி தந்தது சொல்லு மதோ?

பகைவர்களைத் தொளைத்து அழிக்கும் ஒப்பற்ற வேலாயுதத்தை உடைய திருமுருகப்பெருமானே! வீடுபேற்றின் நிலையிலும், விண்ணோர்களின் தலைமீதும் நான்கு வேதங்களிலும் கொடிய காட்டிடையேயும் தினைப்புனத்திலும் விளங்கும் வீரக்கழல்கள் அணியப்பெற்றத் தேவரீரின் திருவடிகளை அடியேன் சிரசின்மீது அடைக்கலமாகச் சூட்டிக் கொள்ளுமாறு தேவரீர் தந்தருளிய கருணையை அடியேன் எடுத்துச் சொல்லக்கூடுமோ?

உருவாய் அருவாய், உளதாய் இலதாய்

மருவாய் மலராய், மணியாய் ஒளியாய்க்

கருவாய் உயிராய்க், கதியாய் விதியாய்க்

குருவாய் வருவாய், அருள்வாய் குகனே.

உருவமுள்ளவராகவும், உருவமில்லாதவராகவும், உள்ள பொருளாகவும், காணவியலாத பொருளாகவும், நறுமணமாகவும், அந்த நறுமணத்தை உடைய மலராகவும், இரத்தினமாகவும் அந்த இரத்தினம் வீசும் ஒளியாகவும், உயிர் இடம்பெறும் கருவாகவும், உடலாகவும், உயிராகவும் நற்கதியான புகலிடமாகவும் அந்த நற்கதியை நோக்கிச் செலுத்தும் விதியாகவும் விளங்கும் குகமூர்த்தியே! தேவரீர் குருமூர்த்தியாக எழுந்தருளிவந்து அடியேனுக்கு அருள்புரிவீராக!

O, God Thirumurugapperumaan! You are the Preceptor (to Lord Sivaperumaan)! You are the Supreme Being, who has form, and who has no form! You are an existent being, and You are also an invisible being! You are the fragrance, and You are also the flower, having the fragrance! You are the precious gem, and You are also its lustre! You are the embryo, where the soul abides, and You are also the body and soul! You are the abode of mukthi [liberation] and You are also the destiny, which drives the soul to the abode of mukthi! May You be gracious enough to appear before me as the Preceptor, and bestow me grace!

 

 

Skanda Sashti Special: Carnatic Music Lesson- Vel Virutham-”அண்டர்உல குஞ்சுழல”

 

Vel –Mayil-Seval Virutham:

Saint Arunagirinathar had composed many poems in praise of Lord Muruga. He believed that even the Vel, Mayil and Seval, of Lord Muruga are praise worthy.

Vel is a sharp Weapon adorning the hand of God Murugan, Mayil (Peacock) is His Vehicle (the Vahana) and Seval (Rooster) is His Flag.

. Vel is a symbol of intellect, Mayil represents splendor and majesty and Seval wakes up people from darkness to dawn.

Virutham is the tempo of the lyrics. Arunagirinathar glorifies the three- Vel, Mayil and Seval, each in ten viruthams

Today, we’re going to learn one Vel Virutham-”அண்டர்உல குஞ்சுழல”

In this Virutham, Arunagirinathar reveals the power of vel.

அங்கியும் உடன் சுழலவே ... எல்லாவற்றையும் நீறாக்கக் கூடிய

அக்னி தேவனும் சுற்றவும்,

 

அலை கடல்களும் சுழல ... அலை வீசும் சமுத்திரம் கொதிப்படைந்து

கொந்தளிக்கவும்,

 

அவுணர் உயிரும் சுழல ... அசுரர்களின் உயிர்கள் தமக்கு முடிவு காலம்

வந்து விட்டதே என எண்ணி பதட்டத்தினால் சுற்றவும்,

Meaning:

The world of celestials spun; the eight directions of the earh spun and along with them, the god of Fire spun too;

The wavy seas spun; the lives of the demons spun, as also the entire cosmos;

Appearing like the millions of spherical suns and moons amidst the gushing blood of the asuras and scaring all the worlds with the sound of its tinkling bells, Murugan's vel practices its spins in a variety of ways;

With dhandayudha, noose of attachment (pasakayiru), dark complexion, and crescent-moon like teeth,

with fiery and fierce eyes and riding on the bull, when the Yama approaches, பகடு (pagadu): male buffalo; bull; seeing which I get agitated, You are the benevolent Lord who offers me His soft, lotus-like feet, asking me not to fear.

He is Kanthan, Murugan, Kumaran and the consort of the daughter of the fierce hunter; the vel in His hands is the weapon whose power is described in the first half of the poem.

Skanda Sashti Special: Carnatic Music Lesson- Thirupugazh (கொம்பனையார் -திருச்செந்தூர்)

 

Skanda Sashti:

The sashti thithi during Solar month Aippasi (As per lunar month it is karthika) is celebrated as Skanda Sashti which is the most significant festival dedicated to Lord Murugan.

Devotees observe six days fast from the first day also called Pirathamai of Kartika month and ends on the sixth day which is known as Soorasamharam day.

Soorasamharam is the most significant day of the six days celebration. It is on this day Lord Murugan defeated Demon Surapadman and hence Soorasamharam is observed every year to celebrate the victory of good over evil.

The day after Soorasamharam is celebrated as Thiru Kalyanam.

This year, 6 Day Skanda Sashti Viratham begins on November 4, 2021 (Thursday) and - Soorasamharam is on November 9, 2021.

kombanaiyAr kAdhu mOdhiru kaNgaLil: Looking at both the eyes of the beautiful creeper-like women, which extend up to, and hit, their ears;

 

AmOdha seethaLa kungkuma pAdeera bUshaNa nagamEvu kongaiyil: at their fragrant mountain-like bosom wearing cool vermilion, sandalwood paste and jewels;

 

neerAvi mEl vaLar sengazhu neer mAlai sUdiya kondaiyil: at their braided hair, adorned with garlands of red lilies that blossom on the waterfront of the ponds;

 

AdhAra sObaiyil maruLAdhE: and at the lovely shapes of their bodies, - I do not want to be befuddled.
